Pune civic body razes 45 dilapidated wadas, action against 43 buildings pending
PUNE : Pune Municipal Corporation has demolished 45 out of 88 extremely dilapidated properties to prevent mishaps during the monsoon, while action against 43 buildings is pending due to reasons like opposition from occupants and legal complications.
Activists said the civic body should continue such action through the year, rather than intensifying it ahead of the rains.Pravin Shende, senior Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) official, told TOI, "We are creating awareness about the risk of living in derelict buildings, but many residents are adamant and refuse to move out. PMC is also seeking help from the police department to execute demolition drives."
The PMC had carried out structural stability survey of old wadas in 2008 and 2016. The structures were categorized in three types - C1, C2, C3.
